Projected starting Quarterback Luke Doty has been sidelined indefinitely due to a foot injury suffered in practice Friday. Doty reportedly suffered a mid-foot fracture and minor ligament damage after getting inadvertently stepped on in practice. Xrays, MRI, and cat scan will be evaluated by outside team medical consultants early next week.

Doty took over the starting job at the end of last season, and overall appeared in 8 games with a pair of starts. He completed 43-of-71 passes (60.6 percent) for 405 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions, and also rushed 41 times for 91 yards with a long of 17.

It's a substantial blow to the offense that only needs good vibes. I guess the entire team is sort of starting over from scratch to an extent with a totally new coaching staff, but it helps to have guys in the major skill positions that have some experience in playing at the FBS college level, much less in the SEC, and Doty was our one and only at QB. Also he has been getting the lion's share of snaps with the #1 team, as the staff picked him out as QB1 since Spring. We'll just have to keep clawing our way up and forward.......

Latest I saw is that it’s a sprain and that Shane thinks he should be good to go for week 1…

First thing I thought when I heard this was lisfranc injury.  Let's hope the latest reports are accurate and he is better soon.

From TBS:

South Carolina held its first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday and did so without projected starting quarterback Luke Doty, who suffered a sprained foot late in Friday’s practice after being stepped on accidentally. A couple of sources I spoke with did not seem overly concerned about Doty’s injury based on what they had to go on at the time of the conversations, but how quickly he returns will depend heavily on how the foot heals. They would love for him to return in time to start the opening game of the season on September 4, but they are also not going to rush him back too soon and risk re-aggravation of the injury, which could lead to him missing even more time. It was also pointed out to me that Doty is the kind of player who will attack the rehabilitation process just as hard as he does when it comes to practice, and that approach should hasten his recovery if all goes as planned.

Sure hope it heals quickly.  I think he needs the in game reps (duh) to get better and work with the WR.
