Decision day on the way
Thursday is decision day for 3-star linebacker Jahmar Brown, a Class of 2019 prospect from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He is a teammate of South Carolina commit Vincent Murphy, a 3-star center in the 2019 class.
Miami and Stanford are also in the mix for Brown, who is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 44 outside linebacker in the Class of 2019. According to 247Sports, he is a 4-star prospect and is ranked No. 22 among outside linebackers in the country.
Brown is scheduled to take an official visit to South Carolina during the first weekend in June, which is gearing up to be one of the Gamecocks’ biggest recruiting events of the year. He was last on campus in March for the spring game.
“The main thing I remember is just meeting the coaches, me just falling in love with the city, me building a relationship with Coach [Will] Muschamp, [linebackers] Coach [Coleman] Hutzler and [defensive coordinator Travaris] Robinson, and the food was good,” Brown told SEC Country, earlier this year.
Murphy has played a role in getting Brown to this point.
“Vinny, he really pushes for me to come to South Carolina,” Brown said. “When he first went up there, he fell in love with it. He told me that I would fall in love with it. He wasn’t lying about that, either.
“But outside of Coach Hutzler, Vinny is my main recruiter to South Carolina.”
Over the last day, multiple picks have been issued for South Carolina on the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Tony Morrell and J.C. Shurburtt of TheBigSpur each issued one for the Gamecocks.
The latest on former Clemson DT
Former Clemson defensive tackle Josh Belk, who visited South Carolina on Wednesday, will head to Georgia on Thursday. On Tuesday night, he spoke with SportsTalkSC’s Phil Kornblut.
“My [247Sports] Crystal Ball was 100 percent Carolina. Closet full of Carolina stuff,” Belk said. “I was Carolina all the way up until maybe a week or so before I committed to Clemson.”
Following his visit to South Carolina, Belk gave the latest to GamecockCentral’s Wes Mitchell.
Clemson added Belk’s commitment in January during his junior year at Lewisville High School (Richburg, S.C.). He graduated in December before enrolling at Clemson in January. The former 4-star recruit was granted a full release from Clemson earlier this month.
