Local OL Hank Manos “excited” about South Carolina offer

Jan. 24, 2017

Hank Manos was home with strep throat on Tuesday morning when he got the good news from South Carolina coach Will Muschamp.

“I called coach (Eric) Wolford, the new offensive line coach, and he was in a meeting with coach Muschamp and he gave coach Muschamp the phone,” Manos said. “Coach Muschamp pretty much said, we would like to offer you a scholarship to the University of South Carolina.

“I was very excited.”

He added, “I wasn’t really expecting it right now, but I’m very happy that it happened.”

Since Wolford arrived earlier this month, the 6-foot-4, 275-pound offensive lineman from Chapin (S.C.) High School has been in regular contact.

“I’ve communicated with him a good bit over text,” Manos said. “I called him last night. We talked for about 15-20 minutes. It was a good conversation. (Tuesday) morning, I talked to him again, after I talked to coach Muschamp.”

Later that morning, East Carolina offered, joining South Carolina, N.C. State and Georgia State.

“It’s great. I just know that I’ve got to work harder and prepare myself for the next level,” Manos said.

In the meantime, Manos will be tied up with wrestling. He’s currently ranked as the No. 1 heavyweight in the state’s 4A classification.

Tight end Will Register, his teammate from at Chapin, is set to sign with South Carolina next week.
