Northwestern High’s Logan Rudolph 6'4" 225lbs got quite the surprise Tuesday morning. After not hearing from South Carolina at all during the recruiting process, Rudolph was offered by Gamecocks interim coach Shawn Elliott on Tuesday.

The junior tight end/defensive end said he was not expecting the news at all, but was excited to get the offer.

“I haven’t heard a word from South Carolina pretty much my entire high school time. I hadn’t heard anything from them. Coach Elliott messaged me on Twitter this morning and said give me a call,” Rudolph recalled. “I called him and just talked to him for a little bit, and he said he watched my film and wanted to offer me a scholarship. I was pumped about that for sure.”

Rudolph said growing up in South Carolina, he has coveted an offer from the Gamecocks. Elliott told Rudolph they could see him playing tight end, defensive end or linebacker.

“I’ve been here about seven or eight years. I’ve always been growing up around Gamecock or Clemson fans,” he said. “It’s obviously a big deal to a lot of people, and that’s an SEC school that’s had a lot of winning history. I was very excited to hear that.”

Monday was also a big day for Rudolph as he was offered by Southern Cal. The offer from the Trojans was less surprising, but exciting nonetheless.

“I had been talking with them the past couple of weeks through DMs. I called some of their coaches a few times and talked with them a little bit,” Rudolph said. “I had been communicating with them for a little bit of time, so I was kind of expecting it a little bit just because of the way they had been talking, but yea it was definitely a surprise just because of the distance. It was great.”

While Rudolph is just starting the recruiting process and has not taken many visits, he said right now the Trojans are in the lead.

“I do have a big interest in Southern Cal for sure. I definitely want to get out there as soon as possible, if it be for a game or in the offseason I definitely want to show them some love because I definitely would consider them my top school,” he said. “Being in Los Angeles, that’s a huge up. I could definitely see their program being on the rise these next few years depending on what head coach they get. I’m extremely pumped about Southern California for sure.”

In addition to South Carolina and Southern Cal, Michigan, Duke, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, NC State, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Kentucky, East Carolina and others have offered Rudolph.

He said the majority of schools, including Michigan, would like for him to play tight end, but Southern Cal, North Carolina and Duke offered for defense. Rudolph said he is open to playing on either side of the ball, but is starting to enjoy defense more.

“I’ve kind of grown on defense. I kind of like playing defense. I find it a little bit easier than offense,” he said. “I think I could play tight end in college, and I think I might enjoy that, but I might end up having more success and enjoying defense more.”

Logan’s brother, Mason, is currently a sophomore quarterback at Oklahoma State and has guided the Cowboys to an 8-0 start, but Logan said he will make his own decision and not necessarily follow his brother to Oklahoma State.

“He went there and that’s what best fit him, but he wants me to go to the best place for me,” Rudolph said.
He is planning to take several visits this summer and would like to have a decision made by late summer or early next fall.
