More official visitors
This weekend, 3-star linebacker commit Jahmar Brown (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) is set to take his official visit to South Carolina, one week later than expected. Four-star defensive end Dante Walker (Riverdale, Ga.) said that his official visit with the Gamecocks will begin on Saturday.
Jaden Davis, Brown’s teammate at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, is considering a visit to South Carolina this weekend. The No. 21-ranked cornerback in the Class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite, is a 5-foot-9, 166-pound 4-star prospect.
Another 4-star cornerback considering an official visit this weekend, Chris Steele, is coming off an official to Florida. Steele, who’s from Bellflower, Calif., is ranked as the No. 4 cornerback in the country.
No South Carolina official visit
Four-star defensive tackle Jaelin Humphries recently told DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell that he does not plan on taking an official visit to South Carolina. That, however, does not mean the Gamecocks are no longer in the mix for the 6-foot-3, 303-pound prospect from Mountain View High School in Lawrenceville, Ga.
“If it is close enough to me, then I’ll drive to it,” Humphries said. “That doesn’t mean those schools are falling out of favor for me. If they are close enough to home where I can drive it within like four hours, my family and I will just head out.
“I just want to use my officials to places that I can’t easily get to like Florida and Nebraska and the schools which are way out there.”
Humphries, the No. 13-ranked defensive tackle in the Class of 2019, already has taken an official visit to Florida. This weekend, he’ll make a stop by LSU.
Official visit updates
Five-star defensive tackle Travon Walker (Thomaston, Ga.) was among the 2019 prospects who visited South Carolina over the weekend. The No. 25-ranked prospect in the country is a 6-foot-5, 275-pound athlete with plenty of versatility, according to Gamecocks coaches.
“I think they are an upcoming program with a great coaching staff. They explained to me that I had three ways to get on the field, the ‘Buck’ position, defensive end and a little D-tackle,” Walker told SportsTalkSC’s Phil Kornblut. “They are a top school. There is no one, two or three.”
Alabama, Clemson and Georgia are also in the mix.
Savion Jackson (Clayton, N.C.) is also considering Alabama, N.C. State and Virginia Tech, among others. The No. 45-ranked prospect in the country is a 6-foot-2, 245-pound defensive end. Below are his thoughts on the official visit, via Kornblut.
“They just finalized some stuff in my brain I was thinking about,” Jackson said. “They answered all my questions. I took away a lot from this visit. It puts them in a strong place with me, a more solid place. This visit really set them apart from some other schools and really made them stand out.”
