Looking at next year’s wide receiver recruitsSept. 27, 2016

South Carolina already has commitments from a trio of 2017 wide receivers named Smith: OrTre, Shi and Shawn.

The Gamecocks current roster of scholarship wide receivers doesn’t include a single senior, and Jamari Smith is the lone junior. Deebo Samuel and Terry Googer are redshirt sophomores. Lorenzo  Nunez is also a sophomore, but he hasn’t played yet this season.

A majority of the corps are freshmen: Bryan Edwards, Randrecous Davis and Chavis Dawkins have all played this season. Fellow 2016 signee Korey Banks hasn’t seen action this season. Redshirt freshman Jerad Washington remains on the roster.

Jordyn Adams – Blythewood (S.C.) High School

Adams visited South Carolina earlier this month for the ECU game, but he was on hand supporting his father, who’s an assistant for the Pirates.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect is ranked as the No. 34 athlete in the class of 2018. A 3-star with offers from South Carolina, Kentucky, North Carolina and Ole Miss, Adams also has offers to play baseball at the next level.

The Tar Heels hosted him for a visit this past weekend for the Pittsburgh game.

And, assuming he’s good enough to be drafted, Adams could potentially have to decide whether or not he wants to give professional baseball a go out of high school.

Adams is playing quarterback for Blythewood this season.

Demarcus Gregory – Byrnes High School (Duncan, S.C.)

If you don’t count Derion Kendrick, who could end up playing defensive back at the next level, Gregory would be the highest rated in-state wide receiver for the class of 2018.South Carolina offered Gregory during the summer, after a strong showing at one of the on campus 7-on-7 tournaments. The 6-foot-3, 196-pound 3-star also has offers from Ole Miss, Louisville and N.C. State.

Sam James – Richmond Hill (Ga.) High School

South Carolina and Georgia Tech represent the Power 5 offers for the 6-foot-2, 160-pound 3-star. Listed as the No. 74 wide receiver in the class of 2018, James also has offers from Central Michigan, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern and Southern Miss. He visited South Carolina in the summer for Muschamp Camp.

Sam Pinckney – Greenwood (S.C.) High School

South Carolina continues to be the only offer on Pinckney’s profile. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound prospect is ranked as the No. 97 wide receiver in the country. He’s also listed as the No. 18 overall player from the state of South Carolina
