Looking at the Gamecocks starting lineup as Men's basketball practice begins

Sept. 30, 2019

Gamecocks on Monday began its first official basketball practice for the 2019-20 season. It came with a Gamecock-produced hype video that included shots of A.J. Lawson’s dunk against Ole Miss, Keyshawn Bryant slams one inside Colonial Life Arena. (VIEW ARTICLE)

Hearing a lot of good stuff from Coach Martin about his team for this season:

Lots of positivity here. We'll also see if Coach stays upbeat once they start implementing his defense into practices. Hopefully the MBB season won't be a repeat of the FB team's start - remember Coach Muschamp was very positive about his team heading into the season, as well.....

"I've been excited about this team since last year."

A.J. Lawson is obviously the focal point for opponents. But in the first two days of practice, Martin says if you walked into the gym and watched, you wouldn't see Lawson. The other guys are playing that well around him.

Martin: It's by far the most productive summer we've had since we've been here.

Micaiah Henry (They'll call him "K," instead of "Mike," since there's also a Maik Kotsar and a Mike Green), is playing well. He's strong, he's at the rim.

"There's a competitive fight at the rim on every play that we haven't had since I've been here."

Martin: McCreary and Leveque play with a physicality not often seen from newcomers. "Our guys drive to the basket, Wildens is coming to get it."
