Looking at the top 5 prospects left on the South Carolina recruiting radar

Jan. 10, 2017

South Carolina coach Will Muschamp will welcome several recruits to campus for the first official visit weekend in January.

Most of the top remaining targets on the Gamecocks 2017 recruiting board are expected to make the trip, while another is slated to visit at the end of the month.

Below are South Carolina’s top 5 remaining 2017 recruits, according to SEC Country.

DE Robert Beal – 4-star – Norcross, Ga.

This one seems like a long shot, but South Carolina quietly has hung around for Beal, a Georgia commitment who once was committed to Notre Dame. Flipping the IMG Academy prospect from his in-state school would be quite the coup for South Carolina, and the Gamecocks will get a shot to make an impression this weekend. Beal visited Columbia in early June, and his visit went “pretty good.”

OT Tony Gray – 4-star – Loganville, Ga.

Among folks in the industry, Florida is thought to be the front-runner for Gray, who recently released a top 5 that did not include Georgia. South Carolina will get the first crack at an official visit this weekend, when he returns for the first time since the Tennessee game. Auburn, Ole Miss and Florida State also were placed among his five favorites.

DE Brad Johnson – 4-star – Pendleton, S.C.

The longtime South Carolina lean already has taken an official visit to Virginia Tech, the school that has the best shot at knocking off the Gamecocks. Johnson will take an official visit to South Carolina this weekend. Tennessee is scheduled to host him next weekend.

DT Javon Kinlaw – 4-star – Goose Creek, S.C.

Shortly after Kinlaw decommitted from South Carolina, it was widely speculated that Alabama would be the landing spot. However, the Gamecocks have since worked their way back into the lead. Kinlaw is scheduled to take an official visit to Southern Cal this weekend. Alabama is up next. South Carolina will bring him in at the end of the month.

DL Aaron Sterling — 3-star — Tucker, Ga.

The former Alabama commitment is thought to be leaning toward South Carolina. The Gamecocks will welcome him to Columbia this weekend for an official visit. Tennessee, Georgia and “maybe” N.C. State will have him on campus officially later this month.
