Looking back at the final day of camp

The 10th and final day of Muschamp Camp on Saturday was highlighted by a couple of commitments and 2019 defensive back targets.
One of those commitments was 3-star linebacker Derek Boykins (Concord, N.C.). The other, 4-star quarterback Ryan Hilinski (Orange, Calif.), took part in a throwing session with future position coach Dan Werner and 2020 quarterback Jackson Muschamp, the oldest of the South Carolina coach’s two sons.

If you had a chance to see the video of Hilinski throwing on Saturday, consider yourself lucky. SEC Country deleted it from Twitter after being reminded that it was against the school’s policy to take video of camp activity.
Hilinski looked great slinging at the target net. He and Muschamp each had about five throws – that SEC Country saw – before the end of their workout.
When they finished, Hilinski hollered at offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon, who was walking from the indoor facility to the outdoor field where Hilinski and Muschamp were stationed. McClendon helped shag the balls thrown by the two quarterbacks.
From about 40-45 yards, Hilinski missed the goal posts – wide right. From about 35-40 yards, Muschamp nailed the cross bar.
The quarterbacks milled around with the coaches for a few minutes before heading back inside. Hilinski didn’t stick around camp for much longer, since his flight back home was later that afternoon. But as he left, an encouraging tweet was posted.
Derek Boykins was back at South Carolina on Saturday.

Derek Boykins passes the eye test with flying colors. That was the first impression when the 6-foot-1, 224-pound 3-star linebacker visited with SEC Country earlier this spring at Central Cabarrus High School in Concord, N.C.
And that was certainly the case on Saturday when Boykins showed up for Day 10 of camp with his coach, Kenneth McClamrock. As Boykins was going through the combine portion of camp, defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson and running backs coach Bobby Bentley caught up with the 247Sports composite’s No. 29-ranked outside linebacker in the Class of 2019
When in line for position work with the other 2019 linebackers, Boykins looked like a college player with a bunch of high school kids. Someone at the camp remarked, “He’s going to make [strength and conditioning coordinator Jeff Dillman] look good.”
Boykins reminds this observer of former Clemson linebacker Tony Steward, who was a 5-star recruit coming out of Pedro Menendez High School (St. Augustine, Fla.).
Jaydon Hill spent plenty of time at South Carolina this weekend.
The DB guests
Robinson was a busy man Saturday, entertaining several of his top cornerback targets for 2019, including 4-stars Jaydon Hill (Madison, Ala.) and Chris Steele (Bellflower, Calif.) to 3-stars John Dixon (Tampa, Fla.) and Jammie Robinson (Cordele, Ga.)
Of the group, Hill was the only one to participate in the camp. Steele and Dixon were in on official visits. Robinson, like Hill, arrived to Columbia on Friday and spent the night.
Hill is also considering Mississippi State and Tennessee. Southern California is the expected to choice for Steele, though several other schools have been in the mix, including Florida, Oregon and LSU. Penn State looks like the primary competition for Dixon while Georgia might offer the most resistance for Robinson.
