LSU DEFENSIVE STATS vs SOUTH CAROLINA DEFENSIVE STATS
Average Offensive ranking of opponents: LSU 100Th ………SC 80TH
Total defense – LSU 3…….SC 11…..we give up 20 more yards a game.
Rush defense – LSU 14……..SC 9
Pass defense –LSU 2……… SC 28
Scoring defense – LSU 8………SC 4
Turnover margin – both tied at 33rd with PLUS .50
Sacks – LSU 24……….SC 4
PPG allowed –LSU 8…………SC 4
Red zone defense – LAST PLACE at LSU 115…………SC 9
……..Defensively both of these teams are pretty much equal. I think we have a better defensive line and LSU has a better secondary. One key stats to look at is red zone defense. LSU has allowed 10 trips inside the red zone this year resulting in TEN TOUCHDOWNS. We have allowed only a handful of TD’s in more trips inside the RZ. The biggest key here is when LSU gets in the red zone we need to hold them to field goals and when we get in their red zone we need to score. If we can make that happen we will have a great chance of winning the game. Also as usual whichever team stops the run most effectively will win the game.

Average defensive ranking of opponents: LSU 66th ………..SC 34th
Total offense – LSU 76……….SC 63
Rush offense – LSU 34……SC 45
Pass offense – LSU 98…….SC 71
Passing efficiency – LSU 52…….SC 2
3rd down conversions – LSU 79…….SC 38
TOP – LSU 79…..SC 58
Scoring offense – LSU 41…….SC 32
Miscellaneous
Penalties – LSU 110…..SC 18
……Our numbers may not be much better than theirs offensively, but there is no doubt we are the better offense on the field. Look at the average ranking of the defense each team has played. We are 34 spots higher than LSU AND we have better offensive statistics for the most part. Also notice that we are 2nd in the nation in passing efficiency behind WVU which is extremely impressive.
PREDICTION: Neither team is going to turn the ball over much and neither will give up a whole bunch of yards on offense. I believe SC will have more yards than LSU especially on the ground because of the zone-read. We basically made Jarvis Jones a non factor on the zone read plays because he was the end that connor was reading most times. Connor shaw will be the difference in this game. I’m waiting however for people to try and stop Shaw as opposed to Lattimore and Lattimore to have a big game. I think we will get to Mettenburger early and often and we will slow their running game enough to win the game. Don’t expect a knockout punch early in the game like last week, its going to be a hard fought defensive battle. LSU is going to have more costly penalties and a few more mistakes than SC and we come away with a hard fought defensive battle.
