Head coach Dawn Staley showed no fear in her scheduling this season, especially in early games. South Carolina will face a ranked opponent in two of its first five games with a third, South Dakota, just outside the top 25 in both polls. Four of those five games are on the road or at a neutral site.

The South Dakota Coyotes are a quality opponent: they were ranked 25th in the pre-season poll, but opened their season against power 5 opponent Oklahoma and lost a tight game 73-71. They barely lost to the Gamecocks by double-digits the last 2 games, and tonight's game should be another tough one....

 
Boston, Cardoso, and Amihere all with 2 fouls each. Feagin will get her playing tie tonight after all....

Gamecocks lead 39-24 at the halftime break. Coyotes went on an 8-0 run, but Bree Hall hits a 3-ptr. at the end of the half, to pull the momentum away from the 'Yotes.

Cooke leads the Gamecocks with 10 pts. Henderson added 9 pts and 5 assists. Saxton added 6 pts, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

Still too many turnovers for the Gamecocks, with 10 in the 1st half....

 
Gamecocks win 72-41.

Destanni Henderson led the Gamecocks with 15 pts on 5-8 shooting plus 4-5 from the 3-pt. line, with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Zia Cooke added 10 pts on 3-9 shooting, with 3 rebounds.

Aliyah Boston added 9 pts on 4-8 shooting in 16 foul-stunted minutes, and added 5 boards and 4 blocks. Kamilla Cardoso also scored 9 pts on 4-6 shooting, with 8 rebounds and 3 assists in 15 minutes of PT.

Victaria Saxton added 6 pts on 3-5 shooting with 3 rebounds and 3 blocks. Freshman Bree "Breezy" Hall also scored 6 pts on 2-3 shooting, 2-2 from the 3-pt. line. She also added 3 boards, 3 fouls, and 3 turnovers in 11 minutes, but she is a freshman. Also freshman Sania Feagin scored 4 pts for her first action as a Gamecock on 2-2 shooting, with a rebound and 2 fouls.

Brea Beal added 4 pts and 8 rebounds.

Overall good points were 8-20 (40%) from behind the arc, 49 total rebounds and 10 blocks. Bad points again was 20 turnovers and 20 team fouls. But another game in the books.

For South Dakota, Liv Korngable scored 24 pts for the Coyotes, but 18 of those were in the 1st half. Chloe Lamb added 10 pts but they had no help offensively from the rest of the team. They shot 1-13 from the three for the game and 10-17 from the line. South Carolina clamped down with the defense a bit in the 2nd half: they held the Coyotes to 6-31 (19.4%) for the 2nd half, and 1-13 (7.7%) for the final quarter. Most of that was just by containing Korngable after the half....
