Marcus Lattimore won’t attend Saturday’s USC game (AUDIO)
South Carolina will honor tailback Marcus Lattimore on Saturday as the school’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns, but the Duncan native won’t be attendance.
Lattimore underwent successful surgery on his injured right knee last Friday, but USC’s team physician Dr. Jeffrey Guy and athletic trainer Clint Haggard have decided that Marcus should not be at the game on Saturday when South Carolina hosts the Arkansas Razorbacks.
The Gamecocks lost Lattimore for the season in the second quarter of their game with Tennessee, when Lattimore suffered a hit to his right knee that resulted in the knee being hyperextended. There were no fractures to the knee, although several ligaments were injured on the play.
Lattimore’s surgery was an effort of Dr. Guy, Dr. Lyle Cain, and USC team consultant Dr. James Andrews, and was performed in Birmingham, AL. According to Dr. Guy, the Gamecock tailback is not scheduled for any additional surgery at this time. After returning to Columbia last weekend, Lattimore was released from a local hospital on Monday.
Lattimore is currently fourth in Gamecock history in rushes (555), sixth in rushing yards (2,677), and holds the school career records for total touchdowns (41) and rushing touchdowns (38). He was the teams leading rusher and receiver at the time of his injury.
