Catch him if you can.
South Carolina cornerback commitment Mark Fields won the Fastest Man competition on Tuesday at The Opening, an all-star camp held annually in Oregon for around 160 of the nation’s best high school football players.
Fields ran a 4.33 in the 40-yard dash earlier Tuesday before beating new Miami running back pledge Jordan Scarlett one-on-one with a 4.34 time to Scarlett's 4.38.
Fields punched his ticket to the elite event organized by Nike and ESPN with a 113.52 rating at the Nike Football SPARQ Combine in February, third-best at the event held at Hough. That’s up from the 79.92 he posted as a freshman, a score that combines results in the 40-yard dash, agility shuttle, vertical jump and kneeling power ball toss.
247Sports considers Fields the No. 7 cornerback prospect in this class. He is a consensus four-star athlete.
