Gamecock baseball coach Mark Kingston believes he has a good mixture of returning veterans and new faces in his program as the Gamecocks commence fall practice with a pair of scrimmages this weekend. One of those new faces is former Clemson head coach Monte Lee who joined the program in August as associate head coach replacing Chad Caillat who left baseball to work in the family business in Louisiana.
Kingston also attempt to spice up his roster in the offseason through the Transfer Portal, and that included taking three former Clemson players. He’s expecting the pitching to be a strength with the return of Will Sanders, Noah Hall, and James Hicks. Plus, Kingston said Jack Mahoney will concentrate full-time on pitching.
Kingston added that he was appreciative that Braylen Wimmer, Hicks, and Hall, who were drafted, turned down that money to return to the program for another season and feels that says something about the program they have built.
The Gamecocks will scrimmage at Founders Park Friday at 3:30 PM and Saturday at 11:30 AM and the scrimmages are open to the public.
