Mark Kingston wraps up Gamecocks' fall baseball
Nov. 11/10/2022

Gamecocks' head baseball coach Mark Kingston clearly liked what he saw from his team during fall practice. So much so that the normally stoic Kingston was able to let his hair down a bit and dissect the media, which covers his team. Taking baseball analytics to a new level.

“Collyn, I can go to town on some of your tendencies,” Kingston joked in teasing Gamecock Central’s Collyn Taylor about his skills as a reporter. “Obviously, we know John lays in the weeds and then likes to kinda hit ‘ya about the second quarter, maybe the beginning of the second half of the press conference. I could probably go on and on, but I’ll leave it at that. I’ll save the rest of my evaluations of you guys for another day.”

On Thursday, Kingston reflected on fall workouts as part of a Zoom conference call with the media. The sixth-year head coach of the Gamecocks heaped plenty of praise on new Gamecock assistant Monte Lee and the job he’s done with the hitters. Noting that “the best teams in college baseball are ones that grind you to death, and that’s what they want to be.” He also touched on his pitching staff, infield defense, and some of the newcomers on his team.
