After what he described as an informative official visit this weekend to Auburn, 4-star South Carolina defensive end commit Marquavius Lewis of Hutchinson Communit College in Kansas said the Tigers and Gamecocks are “very tight” as the Dec. 17 signing day for mid-year junior college players approaches.

“It was pretty good,” Lewis said of the visit. “They opened up my eyes about a lot of things. Coming in, the foundation is already set, having Carl Lawson on one side and me on the other, and of course, Montravius (Adams) on the inside. It’d be a pretty nice D. line.”

The visit was Lewis’ second to Auburn, who committed to South Carolina in July.

Auburn, though, was the first school to offer him, something Lewis hasn’t forgotten.

“It means a lot,” Lewis said. "The first offer in Juco is pretty big. (Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner) showed me all my hard work has been paying off … Coach Garner, he was the first person to show me what I had to offer to a school.”

With Auburn and South Carolina, "It’s very tight,” Lewis said. “I’m still committed (to South Carolina). It’s a big deal real now. This visit showed me a lot of what I needed to see.”

Lewis said the Tigers and the Gamecocks are the main schools being considered. He potentially could take another visit (possibly to Alabama), but added it’s “primarily those two” in the hunt.

For South Carolina, Lewis arguably is the team's most important commitment. For Auburn, he is one of the top targets on the board, and possibly the No. 1 pass rusher.

This visit to Auburn, “showed me a lot, that my family could actually come here and be treated as family in this community.”

According to Lewis, he would fit well into Auburn’s defensive scheme.

Lewis said a final decision probably will come the week after his team’s Dec. 6 bowl game.

His main things to consider?

"The best fit for me, knowing what I can do, knowing the roster of the school I’m coming into and trying to fight for a position,” Lewis said.
