The USC basketball team opens SEC play Wednesday night at Mississippi State. First year Gamecock head coach Frank Martin is off to a 10-3 start. The Gamecocks have already matched their win total for all of last season. And it won’t take much for them to surpass their SEC victory total. They had only 2.
Martin will have Bruce Ellington now on a full time basis for the rest of the season now that football season is over. And he’s hopeful freshman forward Michael Carrera will be able to play tomorrow night. Carrera will practice at full speed today. He’s been bothered by a hip injury.
Martin said 6-3 transfer guard Tyrone Johnson will begin practice with the team today. Johnson transferred to USC from Villanova.
Mississippi State is 5-7 and is coming off a 51 points win over New Orleans. The Bulldogs have won the last six games in the series and owns the overall lead 16-8. The Gamecocks have won only twice all time in Starkville.
