New USC basketball coach Frank Martin will see his team play for real for the first time this Sunday when the Gamecocks open the season at home against Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Gamecocks won their exhibition game over Kentucky Wesleyan last week by a point, but they played that game without four players who were out with injuries. All are expected to be ready to go Sunday with the exception of freshman forward Mindaugas Kacinas
Martin said it’s been an up and down pre-season with his new team in which they will play well for a few days then go thru stretches of shoddiness. Martin said he’s not ready to call out a starting lineup adding it’s not an issue that’s critical.
“Just excited this week is finally here. Just excited for the challenges ahead. The kids are excited. The coaches are excited. We look forward to everything that comes with the season here.”
