Average attendance is 11,676 through 12 home games. The old Carolina Coliseum would have been sold out for all except the WYO, CS, BU, G-W and GWU games.  Purty dang good.

Folks in the fan-base have at times complained about the attendance for the MBB games, and said that Colonial Life is too big an arena for our fan-base and for our sports - that it's too cavernous or too quiet. Based on the history of attendance for games inside there, and in relation to our successes, I have always contended that it has absolutely nothing to do with CLA, but in our successes - or lack of successes - in MBB. And it's pretty blatant to my eyes.

We would regularly fill up CLA and have as passionate a fan-base for our MBB as most in the nation, if the program ever became consistently successful. The WBB program, and how much it brings fans to CLA for their games, is only half the evidence. We had enough success in the few years under Coach Fogler to put the idea in the Athletic Department's heads to build a larger multi-purpose arena in the first place.

When we've had the few brief glimpses of success in the program, it has always resulted in increased attendance - our problem has been, mostly the successes we've had have been along the surprisingly good successes, rather than seasons where we go into them feeling we're going to be good, and have the fan-base expecting them. The closest we've seen this was Coach Martin's back-to-back 25+ win seasons, where the 2nd season resulted in a Final Four. No one in the fan-base ever expected a Final Four appearance from our program in 2016-17, but coming off the first 25-win season, when people felt strongly that we were denied a rightful spot in the NCAAT, when we were returning Thornwell, Notice, Dozier, Silva, a lot of fans felt we had a chance to make another run at the NCAAT.

And what happens?? We not only get to the NCAAT, but we run wild in it. But none of those games were played in the CLA. But the regular season attendance that season ended up being the all-time season record for attendance for the MBB program in Colonial Life.

So, it's always been my stubborn position that, if we start having decent, successful seasons - not just the odd 1 or 2 season that pops up and surprises us, but where the fan-base can prepare and expect the up and coming season or seasons to be good ones and even possibly extra special ones - we'd start seeing games at the CLA where we are regularly full of 15K+ crowds of fans, and they are rowdy and excited for the games, and throughout the games.

If we are able to continue winning during this stretch of SEC games where we will have a strong chance to, I expect to see the final 4 home games to continue to raise the season average up every game.....

@ConwayGamecock  You're absolutely right... success brings attendance.  MBB could see those 15k+ crowds again if the current crop of players continue to grow the way that this season has shown they can.  Just think what a healthy Keshawn with the high-flying dunkfest, a Cousinard running the point and shredding defenses, a Hannibal eating up one-on-one's and taking the rock to the hoop, a Minaya blocked shot-fest, oh... and a SEVENTH Senior-season-party could do.  If we continue to play with ferocity, and stay healthy (i.e. - we have the luxury of bench depth like we currently do), you'll see NCAA hopes for a few years, and you'll see the "Promised Land" with regard to the CLA.

If you build a winner they will come. Frank seems to be putting this team in play for big things to come like this year, next season and beyond. We will fill it up.

The lower bowl is essentially 11K seats, the long and short sides of the upper bowl rectangle are 12-15K, and the corners of the upper bowl are 16-18K.

I think if we are competitive and winning you would see 11-12K for a weekday game against an SEC or SEC-caliber opponent.  Probably 14K against a ranked opponent during the week.

Then probably 15K for a Saturday conference game if we are competitive and winning.

You would see 18K for UK regardless of whether it's a weekend game or not because those games have historically sold out.

Then you are looking at 15-18K regardless of what day of the week the game is played for Clemson and UGA.

Just my two cents.

Agree, winning takes care of everything.  I thought about that when Frank was complaining about attendance, but it was pretty easy to look at Women's basketball and realize there is not a problem with fan support, fans aren't going to spend their time on an inferior product and at that time, that is what we had.  I will also say I take back saying that This might need to be the end for Frank early in the season.  I, like many was very excited for this team and had big expectations early on.  I realize now that I was being the impatient fan that needs to chill out and let things develop.  Looking at Kentucky and how long it is taking them to really form an identity with so many new players it really makes you realize it takes time to get all of these guys playing together.

Five of our nine SEC home games are on Saturdays.  Winning matters, but between taking care of the kids and work,  it's harder for people to come during the week on its own.  The later tip-off time of 6 pm for the UT game didn't hurt, either.

Tue, Jan 7    vs Florida    L 81-68    (8-6, 0-1)
Wed, Jan 15    vs Kentucky    W 81-78    (9-7, 1-2)
Sat, Jan 25    vs Vanderbilt    W 90-64    (11-8, 3-3)
Sat, Feb 1    vs Missouri    W 76-54    (13-8, 5-3)
Sat, Feb 8    vs Texas A&M    W 74-54    (14-9, 6-4)
Sat, Feb 15    vs Tennessee    W 63-61    (16-9, 8-4)
Sat, Feb 22    vs LSU    8:00 PM ET
Wed, Feb 26    vs Georgia    6:30 PM ET    SEC NETWORK
Tue, Mar 3    vs Mississippi St    6:30 PM ET    SEC NETWORK

Win and they will come.

12,042 per home game puts us 28th in the nation in average attendance, and 3rd in the SEC behind Kentucky (2nd), Tennessee (4th), and Arkansas (12th) who all have bigger-capacity stadiums than Colonial Life Arena. All 3 of those teams have appeared in multiple NCAATs in recent years (UTjr. the previous 2 seasons, Arkansas 3 of the previous 5 seasons under Mike Anderson, and UK pretty much every year): if ANY staff could get us to that level, we'd regularly have 15K for every home game....

And this shouldn't be really any surprise to a Gamecock fan. Just look at the facts: football, baseball (when we are winning), WBB (the elite of the nation for some time now), softball (typically in the top 10-15 in attendance every year), women's soccer (the most recent official stats I could find was the 2018 season, where we were 2nd in the nation behind only Texas A&M) - we regularly are among the better programs in those respective sports in average home attendance, even when the results are not among the better programs' results. IMO, our fanbase is wanting to fill up CLA for our MBB program. We just need to give them a good reason to.....

Here are the final regular season numbers.  I believe the last two games would have been 12-13K if they had been Saturday games instead of Tuesday ones.
