McLeod gets back to USC for the spring game Gamecocks
SPORTSTALK / April 21, 2022One of the top prospects in the Williams-Brice Stadium stands to watch the USC spring game last Saturday night was Camden DT Xzavier McLeod. A frequent visitor to USC, McLeod was also in for a junior day in January and a spring practice in March.
Each visit has given him a little more insight into things with head coach Shane Beamer and defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey. McLeod admits he’s sort of reached the saturation point on Gamecock information.
“I really enjoyed the experience. It’s always good to get back to South Carolina, it being the closest school,” McLeod said. “I didn’t really take away anything because I’d already been there so many times, I already know what to expect.”
But he did get to visit with Lindsey. And he did get to watch the defense in action, though they were split up between the two teams.
“I spent half my time with Coach Lindsey and watching the defense. It was a good time,” McLeod said. “I think they are very sound on defense. They fire off fast. They are pretty agile. I think Coach Lindsey is doing a good job with them.”
McLeod said the message from Lindsey was the same Saturday night as it has been throughout the recruiting process.
“He just really wants me there; we were just really going over the same stuff. Just really showing interest,” McLeod said.
This spring McLeod has also gotten to LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida and Florida State. He wants to visit some of the schools he hasn’t seen, naming Oklahoma and Ohio State as two possibilities. He has not set any official visits at this point. The other schools on his short list are Michigan and Oregon. And he picked up an offer from Texas A&M Wednesday.
