Meet Jamyest Williams’ cousin, CB Jalen Huff; top JUCO D-line talent will be in Columbia

June 02, 2017

Jamyest Williams was the crown jewel of the 2017 South Carolina signing class. Later this month, the Gamecocks will get a close look at his cousin, Jalen Huff.

Huff, a 5-foot-11, 161-pound Class of 2020 cornerback from Athens (Ga.) Academy is set to participate in a session of the Will Muschamp Football Camp while he’s in town visiting his cousin.

Williams, a former 4-star recruit, offers plenty of advice for his younger cousin, who lists early offers from Louisiana Tech and Syracuse.

“He’s just making sure that I stay humble and I keep my head up,” Huff said. “He makes sure that I’m always working. He always lets me know that when I’m not working, there’s somebody out there working harder than me to get what I have or harder than me to get ahead. … I have endless opportunities and my future is in my hands.

“If I work hard and do everything I’m supposed to do, then I can make it.”

That approach certainly worked for Williams.

“It goes to show that hard work pays off in the end,” Huff said, “And how everything you do is for a process. It’s really an inspiration for me.”

This summer, Huff plans to camp at Duke, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. He’s also in the midst of scheduling visits to Louisiana Tech and Syracuse.

As a freshman, Huff had 20 tackles, 8 pass breakups and 3 interceptions, including a pick-6.

More South Carolina visitors

Junior college defensive end Dorian Gerald tweeted on Friday morning that he has made arrangements to visit South Carolina.

Gerald arrived home from College of the Canyons (Santa Clarita, Calif.) on Thursday. He’ll be in Florence for the next several weeks. Other recruiting visits could be arranged during his summer break.

Alabama, Florida State, Georgia and Louisville are among the offers for Gerald, who’s ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 8 overall JUCO prospect in the Class of 2018.

With defensive tackle Jabari Ellis (10) set to visit on Saturday, South Carolina is scheduled to host two of the top 10 JUCO prospects in the country within a matter of three days.
