There are 3 plays that always stick in my mind as big plays at USC, not because of the importance of the individual play but rather for the awesome hits that occurred and how they made the play successful:
1) the first was during George Rogers Heisman season when we were playing NC State. Big George took the pitch on the sweep to the right side and when he got to the corner a DB from NC State came up to make the tackle. Big George lowered his head and there was an incredibly violent collision of his head and that of the DB. The DB just crumbled into a heap on the turf. The collision just momentarily stopped George in his tracks, but as the DB folded he just kept going on for a big gain.
2)In 2003 when we were playing Virginia, Cory Boyd took a hand off up the middle and a UVA DB met him in the hole just past the LOS. Cory lowered his head and rammed the DB so hard he crumbled and fell over backward. He was knocked out had to be carried off the field and did not return to the game.
3)Against Florida a few years ago, Andy Boyd caught a pass on the sideline and turned up field. As he did a UF DB came up to make the tackle and Andy, very reminicent of the George Rogers hit in 1) above lowered his head and collided with the DB who was knocked backward onto the turf. The hit momentarily stopped Andy who regained his momentum and raced down the field for what was the biggest gain of the entire game.
Anybody got any more!!
