Midway 2019 Trailer

It topped the box office this weekend. Here's actually the first trailer.
If it's as good as the original it's worth seeing. We're going to try and see it this weekend.
Went to see it Saturday.

I liked the first-person viewpoint from those on-board the USS Enterprise. This also goes for the Pearl Harbor scenes aboard the Arizona. I had the privilege of watching the CAF Pearl Harbor re-enactment and the planes are just suddenly there dropping their bombs.
To me, it is a much better movie than the recent Star Wars chapters combined.
I also like how it portrayed the role of enlisted men in the daily operations of the ships. The scenes inside the submarine Nautilus are just damned incredible.
The merging of CG and live action was pretty much seamless and the movie will probably get an Oscar or two for that alone.
This is a style of movie that just isn't made anymore.
There is also a scene from the Officers Club halfway through the closing credits that pretty much nails that era of music down pretty good.
I will probably see it a few more times in the theater and then pick up the DVD when it comes out.
Just a damned good movie IMO.

The 2019 Midway film was so much better than the pitiful 1976 version in that it managed to tie the history of the first 6 months of the war and tie the events together. For example, the primary reason for the thrust against Midway was that the Doolittle Raid inflicted considerable loss of face on the Japanese military and they had to try to destroy what remained of the Pacific Fleet.
There were no fictional characters and romances muddying up the film either.

I bought a used copy of the first movie last weekend and have watched it a few times.
The airplane and ship footage was always a turn-off for me in the older movie because the footage didn't come from the battle itself and there was a lot of footage from the Tora Tora Tora film. That and the fictional characters and romance crap.
The original also soft-pedaled the reason Nimitz relieved Halsey.
The original did a good job of using maps to lay out the reconnaissance missions by the PBYs.
The DVD I have also has a short with Heston that includes interviews with Max Leslie, George Gay, and Joseph Rochefort. I didn't really like the way Hal Holbrook portrayed Rochefort as an ignorant hick, either.
Both movies tend to be good complements of the other in different ways, I guess.
I might watch this today, have the uhd around here somewhere.
