Mike Bobo’s offenses what will it look like?

Dec. 12, 2019

Gamecocks now have there man at offensive coordinator in Mike Bobo.

Bobo has veteran contentrals of nearly a decade and a half in the SEC, plus five years as a head coach, was approved as Gamecocks OC on Tuesday. He inherits a group with the likes of quarterback Ryan Hilinski, receiving threats Shi Smith, Nick Muse and Josh Vann and most of the 2019 offense line. The group will also add four-star skill players in quarterback Luke Doty and running back MarShawn Lloyd. But now let's look at Mike Bobo offense and what it could look like at South Carolina: (VIEW ARTICLE)

If we have a Dimarco type talent on the team then why not use him?  He was dangerous in the h-back position for us.

Bobo seems to adapt his offenses to what type personel he has on hand. We should not see a drastic change in offense to begin with but should see gradual changes and improvements over time. That is if they have time.

So I've been mostly undecided and confused regarding the Bobo hire. There seems to be a portion of the fanbase who like him and another portion who thinks this is a bad hire. There are UGA fans who want him back in Athens and others who say he sucked. Even my supervisor, who is a big UF fan thinks it's a bad hire. Meanwhile I see the stats his offenses put up while he was at UGA, and I don't get all of the criticism. I do vaguely remember some of us on CT making fun of him back ten years or so ago, but I cannot recall why exactly.

As best I can tell, and I might be wrong on this, but his bad reputation seems to come from a very vocal minority of the UGA fanbase who seemed to dislike him for some reason when he was OC there. The only real criticism I've seen is that he isn't a flashy hire, which is true. At this point though, I think all we really care about is results on the field. If he can at least help our guys put points on the board consistently, then we're miles better than where we have been recently.

Your observation is the correct one in my opinion. There are Jawja people who thought Bobo was going to be their HC one day and liked the idea.  Anyway what you will see is Bobo will use what he has and improve things as they move forward. You will start seeing us going under center with play action to make the saftey make decisions. It will be a balance but if a defense takes either the run or the pass he is good enough to make adjustments without having to do it in the locker room or huddle.

This is right, I live in ga.

We made fun of him for throwing the ball 3 times from the 3 with Gurley was one time I remember

Less hype. More winning.

Ain't gotta be purty, either.
This x2!!

Back in our short lived glory years, I knew everytime we had the ball, we were going to drive down the field. I had no doubt in my mind. Either the called play would work, or Shaw would put on his cape and go take the 1st down. No matter what, drives were kept alive and the offense stayed on the field.

I don't care if we win every game in ugly fashion as long as we're not doing this repetitive 3 and out crap.

Great hire, no.  Good hire yes.  Upgrade from what we had, should be.  Will it show any results in the win column next year, maybe not due to a lack of talent at the WR and TE spots.  OL is still a huge question mark year over year and the RB group is very young and basically unproven.

If he can't solve the problem of incomplete passes and no answer for run & pass blitzes, I expect about the same as this past season.

If he knows what he's doing, he'll embrace a mobile QB....just like most of the good NFL teams are doing.

I'm sure he will when we have one that is capable of making that work at UofSC.  Some NFL teams are successful and it is trending but there are also many who do pretty well without a running or dual threat QB.  It just so happens that Lamar Jackson makes everyone else look pretty silly right now.

Doty. More than 1/2 of NFL starters are mobile guys....Brees & Rodgers. Every team in the NCAA playoff has a mobile guy, including Burrow from LSU.
