Monday morning recruiting report
Jan. 31, 2022

It’s the end of the road for the 2022 football recruiting campaign. Wednesday is the traditional National Signing Day, and though players have a signing window to August 1st, almost all who have not signed will sign on that day.

South Carolina has one spot remaining and apparently wants it taken by Mississippi State transfer receiver Malik Heath who was in for an official visit over the weekend. Heath, who is from Mississippi, first attended junior college before moving to Mississippi State and also visited South Carolina before signing with the Bulldogs. In two seasons with the Bulldogs, he caught 71 passes for 749 yards and 8 touchdowns. Heath will have one season of eligibility for his next stop. Heath does not have to sign Wednesday and would not enroll until summer. Ole Miss and Jackson State are two others involved with him.

Also taking officials this weekend at South Carolina were December signees, QB Tanner Bailey, SAF Nick Emmanwori, WR Xavier Short, WR Kylic Horton and DT Demetrius Watson.

Chapman WR DJ Black is headed to Couth Carolina as a PWO as is Myrtle Beach OL Mac Walters (6-6 285)

Chapin OT Chase Sweigart visited South Carolina Saturday. He will not sign Wednesday and will take some time to decide on PWO offers from the Gamecocks, Penn State and Auburn.

Hilton Head RB Chase McCracken received a PWO offer from South Carolina.

South Carolina is in the top eight with LB Josiah Trotter of Philadelphia. His brother is at Clemson. The others on the list are Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State, West Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Gamecocks are in the top 11 with RB Treyaun Webb of Jacksonville. The other 10 schools on his list are Georgia, Oregon, UCF, Penn State, Michigan, Iowa, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Arkansas and Baylor.

Gamecock target OT Zechariah Owens of McDonough, GA visited Georgia Saturday.

2024 QB Jadyn Davis of Fort Mill and Providence Day in Charlotte was offered by Georgia Tech.

Ridge View OT Tray Franklin plans to announce on Wednesday. He has a PWO offer from South Carolina and full offers from Virginia, Georgia State and Charlotte.
