The fifth WR commitment
Chad Terrell gave the South Carolina class a nice boost on Friday night when he announced his commitment to the Gamecocks 2017 class.
“I just feel like the class they’re bringing in this year, I feel like they’re going to be on the rise,” Terrell said.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound 3-star prospect from North Paulding High School in Dallas, Ga., is the fifth different wide receiver to commit to South Carolina’s 2017 class. Two, of course, are no longer on board: Shawn Smith and Stephen Guidry.
With Terrell on board alongside Shi Smith and OrTre Smith, South Carolina has a trio of wide receiver commitments who could provide immediate help to a position that is in need of depth.
“I feel like there will be a good, competitive air,” Terrell said.
Barring any early attrition from the current roster, South Carolina’s 2017 wide receiver haul is probably full.
Terrell and the Smiths will join a young roster of wide receivers that includes redshirt sophomore Deebo Samuel, and freshmen Bryan Edwards, Randrecous Davis and Chavis Dawkins.
Three games into the career of freshman quarterback Jake Bentley, there’s plenty of excitement about the future of the Gamecocks offense.
“First of all, (Bentley) just started, I just feel like he’s only going to get better … you can tell, just from last night’s game and the game before that, he’s definitely going to be one of the top quarterbacks,” Terrell said.

To make life on the recruiting trail more enjoyable, Muschamp & Co. had to get off to a respectable start in Year 1. Things were trending in the wrong direction when South Carolina started the season with a 2-4 record.
Since inserting Bentley into the starting lineup, the Gamecocks are 3-0 and showing signs of life on offense. According to Muschamp, that hasn’t been lost on the recruiting trail.
Saturday’s visitors
A majority of the notable guests for South Carolina’s game against Missouri on Saturday were targets who are still under evaluation.
Along with 5-star defensive end Xavier Thomas, one of the headliners was Warren Ericson, a 3-star guard from North Gwinnett High School in Duluth, Ga. Ericson last visited earlier this season for the Texas A&M game.
The other guests included:
A couple of offers were sent out by South Carolina over the weekend. On Saturday, 3-star prospect Chris Smith, the No. 40-ranked cornerback in the Class of 2018, nabbed his offer from the Gamecocks.
The prospect from Hapeville Charter in Atlanta also has offers from Auburn, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

On Friday, 2018 running back Caleb Johnson of First Assembly Christian High School in Cordova, Tenn., tweeted about his first offer.
Johnson told Phil Kornblut that he was offered by running backs coach Bobby Bentley.
“He said he liked my tape and was coming to see me in December,” Johnson said. “He liked my vision and my footwork. He said I can flat out play ball. And he was very impressed with my skill set level. Coach also said I should fit nicely in the offensive scheme.”
