More stars arrive for Day 2 of Muschamp Camp
June 08, 2017
The South Carolina football coaches are back in action inside the indoor practice facility on Wednesday, evaluating several notable 2018 and 2019 prospects.
Defensive line coach Lance Thompson spent plenty of time with junior college defensive tackle Dantrell Barkley during the pre-camp registration. Thompson was also nearby during the circuit running drills.
Barkley, who’s originally from the Charlotte area, attends Independence Community College in Kansas. South Carolina has offered.
Another headliner on hand is 2019 4-star offensive tackle Evan Neal, a former Alabama commitment who attends IMG Academy in Florida. Neal isn’t working out, but he certainly saw plenty of attention from offensive line coach Eric Wolford, before the camp got started.
Neal is among the contingent of guests from Florida, which includes his cousin, 2018 3-star defensive end Chaz Neal, a 6-foot-7, 253-pound prospect from Armwood High School in Seffner.
Several prospects from Team Tampa, a 7-on-7 organization, are in their travelling party. The group has been on the road visiting several SEC schools since late last week, including Florida, Alabama and Vanderbilt.
Kentucky wide receiver commitment Shocky Jacques-Louis, a 3-star from Dunbar High School in Fort Myers, spent a considerable amount of time with co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon.
Speaking of attention, 2020 defensive end Tonka Hemingway received shortly after arriving with his family. Hemingway, who’s from Conway (S.C.) High School, has offers from South Carolina, Clemson and Georgia State. Thompson kept a close eye on the 6-foot-2, 250-pound prospect.
A group of prospects from Roswell (Ga.) High School are also working out on Wednesday, including 2019 cornerback Tyron Hopper, who was offered by the Gamecocks while he was still attending Gaffney (S.C.) High School. Three-star 2018 tight end Tyneil Hopper and 3-star quarterback Cordell Littlejohn are with the group.
In-state athletes Bryce Thompson (Irmo-Dutch Fork) and Quavian White (Greer) made it to the camp.
