The latest offer
According to SEC Country’s unofficial count, South Carolina has dispensed offers to four 2019 prospects from the state of South Carolina.
Earlier this week, Gaffney High School cornerback Tyron Hopper was offered by the Gamecocks, joining Anderson-T.L. Hanna defensive end Zacch Pickens, Rock Hill-Northwestern wide receiver Jamario Holley and Roebuck-Dorman wide receiver Jacoby Pinckney.
Muschamp, along with running backs coach Bobby Bentley and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson, passed along the news to Hopper.
“They were excited. Me being in the 10th grade with my size. And they really liked my film,” Hopper said.
South Carolina is the first offer for the 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect who’s also hearing from Clemson, East Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia Tech.
The Gamecocks hosted him on campus in February for junior day.
“I got to see the DBs do 1-on-1s and how the coaches (interact) with the players. That was great,” he said.
Hopper has also visited North Carolina, and Clemson will host him this month before he travels to Virginia Tech on April 1.
Growing up, he claimed no allegiance to one of the two in-state programs.
“I just liked to watch football,” Hopper said. “I just love the game.”
Name to know
As the 2019 recruiting cycle continues to come into focus, there’s another in-state skill player who’s expected to start reeling in some offers, too.
West of Orangeburg at Williston-Elko High School is wide receiver/tight end Keshawn Toney, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect who profiles as a tight end at the next level.
On his sophomore highlight reel, Toney shows off some natural pass-catching skills. His ability to make difficult catches away from his body are also apparent.
Georgia Tech has already taken notice. Next month, the Yellow Jackets will host Toney for their spring game, marking his first unofficial visit as a recruit.
This summer, he will camp at South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Coastal Carolina and S.C. State.
Toney is certainly one to keep an eye on from the state of South Carolina in 2019.
