Movement on way? Gamecocks send out offers

Former Florida State defensive back commitment Israel Mukuamu is approaching the end of his days as a high school prospect. He’s graduating later this month from Parkway High School (Bossier City, La.), so it’s high time he makes a decision.
That announcement could come around the same time that South Carolina picked up a couple of junior college defensive backs on Dec. 14, 2016: Kaleb Chalmers and Keisean Nixon.
Chalmers, who began his career at Clemson, was enrolled at a JUCO in Mississippi. Nixon, a California native playing in Arizona last year, has seen more action than Chalmers this season, snatching 2 interceptions in limited action.
What are the odds?
Could Mukuamu join them in the Gamecocks defensive backfield? It’s looking like a distinct possibility.
The 6-foot-4, 187-pound 3-star prospect has held in-home visits this week with coaches from South Carolina, Indiana and Purdue. Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson stopped by on Monday.
At last check, those were his only in-home visits for the week. A decision could come within the next week or so. The former Berkeley (S.C.) High School standout is heavily favored to announce for South Carolina, according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball.
Those odds seem to be pretty favorable for the Gamecocks.
“I would say they are at the top,” Mukuamu told Phil Kornblut. “They are my favorite. Anything can happen these next couple of days. I think I’ll probably commit to one of these schools either next week or on Signing Day.”
Also watch
Four-star cornerback Jaycee Horn (Alpharetta, Ga.) is expected to take an official visit to South Carolina this weekend.
Two things to keep in mind here:
Officially, so long
Former LSU defensive back Saivion Smith, who’s currently enrolled at a Mississippi junior college, announced his commitment to Alabama on Wednesday afternoon.
South Carolina hosted him for an official visit and appeared to have genuine interest in playing for Muschamp and Robinson, but the pull to Tuscaloosa was too strong.
Once his second round of recruiting began, it was pretty much a given that he was Alabama’s for the taking.
Offer heavy
Over the last few days, South Carolina has offered many prospects from the 2019 and 2020 classes.
