Shawn Smith
USC coach Will Muschamp and his staff hosted several prime prospects for a cookout in Columbia Saturday and besides flipping burgers Muschamp skewered a pair of commitments for his offense, WR Shawn Smith (6-0 170) of Brunswick, GA and RB Kyshaun Bryan (5-10 190) of Fort Lauderdale. The two commitments give USC nine for the 2017 class.

Other offers for Smith include Auburn, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Kentucky, Mississippi State and West Virginia.  Last season he called Georgia his favorite but earlier this year he named Miami his leader.  He visited there and Georgia this year and he also went to Alabama for the spring game.

Last season Smith had 33 catches for 315 yards and 2 touchdowns and he rushed for 509 yards and 7 touchdowns. He’s the lone receiver commitment in the class now that Stephen Guidry has decommitted.

Kyshaun Bryan
Bryan also has offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Duke, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Saturday was his second visit to USC in two months.  He also came in for the junior day in March.  He also went to junior days at Miami and Florida State and was at Florida State’s spring game.  In fact, he has made three visits each to Miami and Florida State.   But Bryan said after his second USC visit it felt like the right place for him.

“It feels like home honestly,” Bryan said.  “Right when I stepped on campus a couple of weeks ago I had that feeling so I see myself going in there as a freshman competing.”

Last season Bryan rushed for 646 yards and 7 touchdowns.  He had 824 rushing yards and 7 scores as a sophomore.

What does running backs coach Bobby Bentley tell him he likes about him?

“Speed and my vision,” Bryan said.

He’s the first running back to commit to the Gamecocks for 2017.  And as for concerns that Bryan might crack under the recruiting pressure from Miami and Florida State, he said not to worry.

“I am fully committed on South Carolina.”
