Muschamp, USC coaches get in on new social media craze

Will Muschamp and South Carolina’s assistant football coaches are taking advantage of new NCAA rules that allow certain interactions on social media.
Regulations that began after midnight Monday permit coaches to perform such functions as “like” or “retweet” a prospective student-athlete’s post made on Twitter or other social media channels. Coaches can endorse a recruit’s post with the various interaction options, but they cannot write any sort of public messages.
“Comments are NOT permitted; considered more than confirmation of a prospect’s recruitment,” the University of Tennessee explained via Twitter. “Click, but don’t type.”
Muschamp, running backs coach Bobby Bentley and special teams coach Coleman Hutzler were among those interacting with prospects’ tweets overnight and Monday morning.
Muschamp and Hutzler retweeted previous commitment announcements from Class of 2017 linebackers Sherrod Greene and Davonne Bowen.
Urich about the start of Wren High’s preseason practices.
Bentley liked a number of posts made on Twitter, some recent and some not, including Union wide receiver Shi Smith’s commitment announcement made June 11.
The Gamecocks’ volleyball coaches were taking similar actions Monday morning with their prospects.
Coaches were already allowed to follow recruits on social media and send private messages.
Some additional explanations of the new rules:
