All signs point to Carolina gaining his commitment.
I have watched all available video, read scouting reports, as well as what his coach has said about him. I have not seen him in person, but I have enough faith in the film to say I believe Pellage could turn out to be the best high school lineman Carolina signs in this class.
Pellage has a great frame, a legit 6'7 280 plus pounds. He has excellent initial quickness, bends naturally, and is good at the point of attack. I like his kick step and base in pass pro. Pellage is still growing into his frame and is not a finished product, but if you rate a prospect partially on upside and potential, then Pellage is definitely a top 100-150 prospect, because he has a very high ceiling. When you combine his frame, base and raw athletic ability with a major college strength program and the coaching he will receive from Shawn Elliott, I believe Pellage should be ranked a 93-94 on the 247 scale and a 5.9 on the Rivals scale
Had Pellage chosen to commit in May, he could have chosen from FSU, Alabama, Florida, Miami, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, etc...
What has changed? He had one bad day at a camp where the Defensive linemen have a clear advantage because it's football in shorts. Pellage has not played a game since his junior year, after which he was rated a 93 by 247Sports.
Yeah, I get it...FSU is now wanting to evaluate his senior film before they would take him. They took 5 tackles in the last class and have others rated higher. Rick Trickett is also the most quirky evaluator in college football. Other schools have hit their numbers on the OL. All those factors certainly help Carolina, but what about this....
Pellage visited Carolina last spring for 2 days and by all accounts on the Carolina end of things, the trip could. NOT have gone better. Then Pellage and family returned last month for the Showcase weekend. Pellage worked out both Friday and Saturday and raved about OL coach Shawn Elliott. Carolina has felt great about their chances with Pellage since then, and from what I have gathered coach Elliott thinks Pellage is an outstanding OT prospect.
Should Pellage commit to Carolina on Friday afternoon, this is a great pickup, and meets the need of another Bigtime High school OT to pair with Austin Clark. I will be shocked if after his senior film is evaluated. His ranking does not rise back up into the low to mid 90s. I think Pellage has all the tools to develop into an All SEC caliber LT or RT under the coaching of Elliott. He has been right behind DE commit Marquavius Lewis at the top of my personal 10 most wanted list since early June, after the commitment of Clark.
