My thoughts on DE Arden Key

Based on the most recent information. I feel that Key will pick LSU Monday night.

Key did not take an official visit this weekend, cancelling a previously-scheduled trip to Auburn after meeting with LSU assistants Ed Orgeron and Frank Wilson at his school on Friday.

Previously, Key has committed to and then de-committed from South Carolina.

The Tigers have a need at defensive end in this class and felt good about Key following his official visit to Baton Rouge on the weekend of Jan. 16. That confidence, however, reached a peak following the LSU in-home this weekend. Subsequently, the Gamecocks' confidence, which had been high, waned.

Key is expected to announce Monday night on Fox Sports South. No doubt both staffs will continue to make their pitches to the Under Armour All-American up to the announcement and until his letter-of-intent is faxed in on Wednesday, which is National Signing Day.

I don't have anything more than a hunch, but my feeling is that Key is under tremendous pressure from LSU and knew that going to Auburn was going to be another high pressure sales pitch. No matter how much you like being a media darling, you don't like staring into the faces of coaches and lying to them. I think he feels he painted himself into a corner with LSU although his heart is telling him to come to USC. Nevertheless, if he is a guy who can turn his 3 or 4 year relationship with Whammy off after being recruited by LSU for a few weeks, he's just not the character of person I would want on our team. However, if he chooses to stay with Whammy, I'll know there is some goodness in the young man and I'll probably be able to forget about the decommitments eventually, although I harbor a grudge against him because they hurt us.
