National analysts react to Jordan Burch picking the Gamecocks

Dec. 19, 2019, | GCF Staff Report

The Gamecocks and coach Will Muschamp scored a major recruiting coup Wednesday, by getting the commitment of the No. 5 player in the class of 2020, defensive lineman Jordan Burch. Burch, a premier prospect from Hammond School in Columbia, spurned offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and LSU to pledge with the Gamecocks, and his decision gives Muschamp, coming off a disappointing 4-8 season in which questions about his job security started to become persistent, some crucial momentum, as well as a much needed bolt of excitement for the fan base. Speaking on ESPNU’s recruiting show, ESPN national recruiting director Tom Luginbill and former coach Jim Mora both weighed in on Burch’s decision and its impact for Carolina. (VIEW ARTICLE)

The more I hear about this kid and see his actions, the more I liked him. He had a lot of crap going on around him during his recruiting and it is evident he handled most of the preceedings by himself. Waiting to sign until Feb. so he could do so with his other teammates shows me he has a lot of class and is NOT all about him. Wonderful catch for our coaching staff.

National media trying to create drama even though Burch has been quoted as saying he won’t communicate with college coaches other than USC.

I will believe him to USC when he signs his LOI...I just do not understand why he did not after he committed...I get waiting on teammates to a point but I would prefer that he had shut it down but no worries I hope to see him in Garnet and Black

It is kind of refreshing to me to see a kid that cares that much about "team" and doing this with his teammates.  He has all been a breath of fresh air when it comes to this whole recruiting thing.  He did not seek the limelight and instead took his time and made his commitment and since then has shut off communication so that rumors do not get started.  The media is dying for some kind of controversy as that is what they rely on to sell papers, but he just won't give them anything to work with.
