NCAA Overtime rule change

I wish they would adopt the NFL model
The thing I don't like about the NFL rules is that the game can still end in a tie ... if they kept those rules in place until there was a winner, I would be more inclined to agree.

Not really a fan of this. I think the old rules were fine and this is trying to fix a problem that either doesn't exist or nobody cares about.

I wish they would leave it alone, but at least it is fair. Each team has an opportunity to win the game, unlike the NFL, which gives a huge advantage to the winner of a coin toss.

Exactly - The NFL rule leaves too much to chance.
if you want to win then you must stop the other team from scoring a td...the NFL rules favors teams with strong defenses IMO...I also like that it continues to keep the three phases of the game involved

but I agree with above that it should not end in a tie

I don't understand what you mean by "it continues to keep the three phases of the game involved", so would you please explain your thoughts?  With the NCAA rules, each team has a chance to control the game with both their offense and defense.  Things happen in a game, and mistakes happen.  With the NCAA rules, you can screw up on defense, and your offense can pick up the slack.  With the NFL rules, if your defense screws up, your offense may not get a chance, depending on the coin toss.

special teams/field position...and furthermore I get tired of seeing teams sit on the ball at the end of regulation b/c they are playing for overtime.  If you are in OT I guarantee that you missed out on opportunities to win during regulation

I see what you mean there, and if I remember correctly, after you get through the first possession of NFL overtime, it is like normal.  I'm all for just continuing to play like normal until someone wins, as long as both teams get a possession of the ball.  The whole coin toss thing is silly, in my opinion.

yes that is correct...unless the fist team scores a TD...with the NCAA rules the games can go on forever and changing the actual game play to me seems a little ridiculous...I was at an arkansas/ole miss game once and there were like 8-9 OT's

I also don't particularly like in OT as it is now that going 2nd is so much more advantageous to going first (but I realize they do alternate from then on)

I like the college rules much better than the NFL. I just wish they would start each possession with a kick-off to determine starting position. In that way it would involve all phases of the game.

On another note, in relation to the rule change, I believe they are imposing this rule to speed up OT games that prevent networks from switching to the new games. I bet this is purely for the sake of TV and not to improve the game.

It’s always about the money.
