Part of me understands why they are doing this, but realistically what you are going to end up with is a bunch of bored kids with too much time on their hands getting into trouble off the field. Potentially an increase in legal liability and cost for the schools from that perspective.
Athletic scholarships are the only way for many student athletes to afford an education and get a degree if that's what they desire.
The last paragraph tells me it's really up to the schools even though the NCAA no longer requires standardized testing.
