Better late than never for Nebraska as the Huskers earned a commitment from Jacksonville Sandalwood defensive end Blake McClain during his visit. He’s commit No. 24 for Nebraska.
Nebraska commit No. 24 Blake McClain.
On Monday, Nebraska wasn’t yet in the picture, but the Huskers pulled McClain in for a last weekend visit when Florida State approached the longtime commitment to grayshirt.
Nebraska, who had been searching for defensive ends all of January, entered the picture pretty quickly and were ready to go when McClain officially decommitted from FSU on Thursday.
“I’m telling you, Nebraska kind of just lucked out here, man,” Geis said. “Florida State called and Nebraska was 10 minutes behind walking in the door. I let them know he just decommitted and they said ‘Is that the kid we really liked? Can we talk to him?’ Four days later, we’ve got this.”
McClain had been updating Geis all day about the visit. The defensive end told his coach that he was particularly impressed by the facilities and the campus. McClain is the second Sandalwood player to commit to Nebraska this month, joining cornerback Chris Jones.
