Until the 3rd quarter I will still searching for something to feel good about, to be honest. But in the effort of being optimistic:

Positive 1. Connor Shaw is the real deal in every facet of being a QB. Not sure if anyone really doubted this, but in leadership and toughness he is second to none.

Negative 1. No one that stepped in to relieve Shaw was able to play well. People that followed Spring and Summer practices much more than I did say that Clifford played really well, not sure how he would’ve done out there. Perhaps Thompson was nervous, Shaw didn’t really play well on his first start last year versus ECU so maybe its just the same type of thing. Either way, Shaw runs a lot, which means he has a higher possibility of missing plays. Having a quality backup that is ready to play is paramount.

Positive 2: Our defense hit pretty hard when they did hit someone.

Negative 2: We got beat a few times for being out of position, both in the secondary and up front. Mobile quarterbacks that can throw on the run will be a big problem for us if we don’t get that solved.

Possible Positive 3: Vandy looked different than I’ve ever seen them, especially in the attitude department. They have a very good RB, a QB with a great pedigree who is very fast and a WR that played extremely well. This win may look better and better as time goes on this season.

Possible Negative 3: Vandy may not be that deep or could have significant flaws other teams can exploit. This win may look worse and worse as time goes on this season.

Other negatives: Not sure why Shell was removed from the game, on Twitter they were saying he played “soft” and his removal may have been both a necessary thing for this game and motivational for him in the future. The commentators were saying that our defense looked tired late in the first half and midway through the second half. Is that conditioning, or is it a by-product of being out of position and having to play “catch up.” The defensive line alone lost containment several times and ended up running a few football field lengths of sprints because of it.

Other positives: It hit me before this game, we are now in the place that Florida was for so long in my lifetime. Teams view us as one of if not the best team in the East, and beating us would make their season. Good teams find ways to win even when its not their night, and we did that. It’s one thing to sneak up on someone, its quite another to win when everyone knows what you’re bringing.
