New face that the Gamecocks will have to count for the next 3-4 weeks

Oct. 04, 2019

The Gamecocks had to rely on  a true freshmen offensive tackle by the name of Jaylen Nichols on Saturday night. Not the best way to start your career but sometimes out of need it happens in the world of college football. Why it happen?  Starting right tackle Dylan Wonnum is sidelined for 3-4 weeks with an ankle injury, one he’s lucky isn’t broken according to Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp. That means Nichols is a starter at that spot for the foreseeable future, and he seemed to do at least OK in his first real action against Kentucky. (VIEW ARTICLE)

I know in the pre-season Jaylen was picked in the #2 spot. Fortunately we have 10 more OL that are not even on the 2 deep. 5 are also FR but I just hope that maybe the others get subbed in for a couple plays every here and there for experience. It would be great to RS the other 5 FR. Kinda amazing we got so many FR OL. But hey, we got 28 FR on this team. Some are already showing out and will not RS, i.e. Hilinski, Robinson, Dixon, Boykins, Pickens, and Legette. Harris will get his RS or he would be in that list too. Thankfully the other linemen say Jaylen did a good job. I notice our RB's seemed to find some room up the middle. I just hope he is ready for the pass rush next week.
