USC landed a commitment last week from OL Jozie Milton of Clinton, LA. Milton chose the Gamecocks from more than 20 offers. And he committed to the Gamecocks without ever having set foot on campus.
When asked why he chose USC, Milton responded, “Who wouldn’t want to play for South Carolina?”
There were several factors why Milton chose to commit to the Gamecocks before his first visit. He listed a position change and the business school as two of the main ones.. Milton currently plays defensive tackle but is excited about the chance to switch to the offensive line as a center.
“I’ve been told by several people that I just look like a center and when South Carolina offered me at that position, I was really excited,” he said. “It’s a chance for me to learn a new position. I really just want to take the aggression I play with on the defensive side of the ball and use it on the offensive side. I also really want to study business and everybody is telling me they gave a great program at South Carolina.”
Milton’s father, who played with USC assistant Deke Adams at Southern Miss, was surprised by his son’s decision but is supporting Milton 100 percent.
“When I told him that I want to play 11 or 12 hours away from home, he was crushed, but he told me that this is my life and I need to take control of it,” he said. “He told me he is completely behind me.”
This summer Milton plans to make his first trip to Columbia and said he is solid in his commitment.
His offers include Arkansas, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Southern Miss, Arizona State, Iowa State, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, West Virginia, South Florida, TCU and Wake Forest.
