4 star TE Naseir Upshur (6-4 230) of Philadelphia hales from the same high school as USC running back David Williams and the two are close friends. GA Mangus won the recruiting battle for Williams and he has the Gamecocks in a strong position right now with Upshur who will be in Columbia Saturday for the Georgia game. He also visited USC earlier in the summer.
“I’m high on them,” Upshur said. “They’ve been recruiting me since my freshman year. Their offense fits me well. And they are losing two tight ends.”
Upshur has a a long list of 26 offers that also includes Arizona, Arizona State, Temple, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Tennessee. He does not plan to rush his decision.
“I’m taking my time with everything,” he said. “I want to make sure my family gets to the other schools I like. I’ll come up with a top 15 around mid-season.”
Upshur caught 10 passes last season, 4 for touchdowns, on a team that primarily runs the ball. He also plays defensive end.
