Lamont Paris News Conference 10-12-2022

Oct 12, 2022, Head Men's Basketball Coach Lamont Paris meets with members of the media 10-12-2022 VIDEOS FROM USC MEDIA OUTLET.

Gamecock fans will get their first look at the new Gamecocks when Mars Hill pays a visit to the Colonial Life Arena for an exhibition game on Nov. 2nd. South Carolina will open the season, in earnest, against SC State on Nov. 8th before playing host to rival Clemson, on Nov. 11th.

Coach Paris reflects on his time at @BadgerM, and points out that 20–22-year-old fans in Wisconsin can only remember one year where the Badgers missed the NCAA Tournament.

With the Ebrima Dibba injury, Coach Paris expects OSU transfer Meechie Johnson to play some point, but also says this team may not have a traditional point guard role, but instead play more fluid offense.

Coach Paris with the Bruce Lee quote “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” Paris was describing finding his player's strengths, and utilizing those strengths.

Coach Paris says his team will be hard to score against, and that opponents won't be happy playing against them. He also points out that his teams historically play their best basketball towards the end of the season, steadily progressing throughout the year.

Coach Lamont Paris talks about his "system", how important defense is, and how he hopes to make decision-making "easy", or 'simplified" for his team. He wants his guys to understand the scheme, then be able to play freely on game day.

I really like Lamont a lot.

Having said that, the team will probably run into a buzz saw in SEC play, but that will be offset by the fact we retained Scott Greenawalt as S&C coach and he already knows what his baselines with the kids should be. So then it's hopefully just a matter of schematics and fundamentals.

I will definitely go to a few games in December to see what the team looks like.

Love the Bruce Lee quote, knowing your rosters strengths and adapting your "system"/style to fit it while getting them to buy in is the battle. It has to be fairly easy to learn and when executed successful... He sounds like Coach Martin, I love it! You can recruit offense more than Coach it but you can teach and coach defense to win, that is how a college coach wins imo
