Now it is game week and Will Muschamp still thinks his offense has the ability to improve

Nov. 25, 2019

The South Carolina will finish the season with a poor statistical offensive showing for 2019. Let's look. The team has one game left and currently ranks 99th in offensive yards per play and points per game. That’s before facing a Clemson team with arguably the best defense in the country. Yes of course there is room for improvement. Whether it actually happens is an entirely different thing. Because it hasnt for some time now

The injury list on offense is depressing to say the least. I'm not using it as an excuse, Im using that as a fact. It was crazy last year on the defensive side of the ball but I feel it is even worst this year on the offensive side of the ball. Both starting RBs are hurt or hobbled. The QB is nursing some kind of injury also. Our WRs corps looks like a MASH unit with Edwards out and Ortre and others limited due to injures. I know some like to say, next man up but we are not to the point, depth wise to cover that war chant. It takes more than 4 years to have enough depth to cover for just a minimum amount of injuries.

I am seeing some scuttle that Lawrence will be playing with a banged up shoulder.

Lawrence being hurt has no bearing on our offense. NONE. The product we put out on the field on offense is not built to score a bunch of points. The combination of poor play calling and lack of play makers is a deadly combination at this point.

And I would not wish that we intentionally injure any player from another team - Clemson or otherwise.

TKE, I would agree but having basically all of your play makers hurt or hobbled cuts you play sheet down to almost nothing. Not to mention a Fr. QB fresh out of diapers still trying to figure it out. Yes we have a mess on offense but their is real reasons why and most if not all of it is not because of coaching.

I agree players gotta catch balls, coaches dont. Outside of Edwards though what happened to the talent? Isnt that on coaches to a) get the talent and b) develop the talent?

Regarding freshman QBs...we are not in an era of college football where playbooks can be scaled back from Freshman. The landscape has changed. We should be allowing Hilinski to be comfortable doing what he does best, not trying to hinder him. And with Muschamp's injury rate, all the more reason to let the kids do what they do best. Unfortunately our coaches don't agree with me either.

Its so hard to figure how our injuries get to the point of an epidemic. Could it be our practices, could it be our S@C regiment ? I have no idea. It just seems very weird to me that our defense gets hammered last year and our offense this year. We are still in a rebuiuld mode so the lack of depth in certain areas are understandable. What worries me now is WR depth and quality for years to come. Shi is going to be fine and Leggette looks legit but after that I have not seen a WR I feel will contribute a lot next year.

There were a lot of nice recievers in the SC high school ranks this year that were fast and also could make plays but we nor klempzun didnt even offer them. Those kids went to other D1 schools by the way. Yeah they were 5ft 9 or so but damn they were quick and could catch. Take for instance the kid from Dutch Fork, how in the hell didnt we offer him ?

As far as QB, I just hope Hilinski wasn't mentally damaged by the beating he took earlier in the year. He seems now to be backing out of the pocket more than he should and throwing off of his back foot. Bentley did the same thing after klempzun beat on his ass and was never the same. I think with QBs like Doty coming in we will see our offense having more of a spread look like klempzun or LSU does. You just cant protect a QB that cant move anymore, the defenses are too fast and big to contain on a consistant basis.

I’m curious to see what they put in with the bye week.  I’d like to see a lot of Joyner under center with a pass package.  I don’t think Clemson would be expecting that.  We don’t even know how good the Clemson D is because they haven’t played anyone with an offense.  We held A&M to 13 points through 3 qtrs.  UNC is probably the best offense they have played.
