Offensive lineman John Simpson 6-foot-4, 290-pounder (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) said Clemson has a slight lead on South Carolina.
“I was a (South) Carolina fan growing up but I think Clemson got it right now,” Simpson said.
South Carolina offered first this summer and holds a 100-percent lead on the Crystal Ball.
“The coaches they’re cool,” Simpson said of South Carolina. “It’s just like home when I go up there.”
Gamecocks running backs coach Everette Sands recruits the lineman for South Carolina.
Clemson offered October 4 on an unofficial visit.
“When I went up there it was like family,” Simpson said of Clemson. “They treated me like I was one of them already, but I haven’t committed yet.”
The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder plans to visit South Carolina Saturday as the Gamecocks host Tennessee.
He also plans to visit Clemson November 29 as the Tigers host South Carolina.
LSU, Florida State and Kentucky are showing interest.
The 2016 recruit said he hopes Georgia offers third.
He said he also hopes to land offers from North Carolina and Florida State.
