2019 prospect visits
Jaylen Nichols, who’s ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 41 defensive tackle in the Class of 2019, was offered by South Carolina earlier this year as an offensive lineman.
On Saturday, the 6-foot-5, 300-pound prospect visited the Gamecocks from Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C.
“It was really electric. The whole stadium was really electric,” he said.
It was his first game-day trip to South Carolina, but Nichols was on campus in the summer for the SpursUp recruiting cookout.
While on campus last weekend, he visited with offensive line coach Eric Wolford.
“[south Carolina’s coaches are] all pretty cool, pretty straightforward,” Nichols said.
The Gamecocks 2-1 start has caught his eye, despite the loss to Kentucky last Saturday.
“I think they’re doing pretty well right now,” Nichols said. “I don’t see anything that they’re doing wrong. They’re getting better.”
Indiana has also offered. North Carolina and Virginia Tech remain in contact.
Pushing for a visit
Three-star offensive tackle Jerome Carvin (6-4, 325) told Phil Kornblut that Wolford is pushing for him to visit in November, when Florida travels to Columbia for the annual SEC East showdown.
“[Wolford] always talks about him being in the NFL and he was at South Carolina before going to the NFL and he turned the offensive line play around, and he turned it around this year,” Carvin said. “He was saying I’d fit great with them, that I’m athletic and he likes that I’m athletic for my size.”
Carvin, who’s from Cordova (Tenn.) High School, is rated by the 247Sports composite as the No. 29 offensive tackle in the Class of 2018.
