South Carolina has handed out three offers to junior college offensive tackle prospects and one went to Branton Autry (Coffeyville, Kan./Coffeyville). The 6-foot-5, 320-pounder doesn’t have a huge offer list just yet but there is another major program that could join the fray soon.

Autry received his offer from the Gamecocks on February 20 and also boasts tenders from Southern Miss and Arkansas State. He said that Oklahoma has been in touch a lot lately as well and could be close to offering.

Originally from Mobile, Ala., Autry could see himself coming back to SEC country to play college football.

“Yeah, I’m very interested in South Carolina,” Autry said. “I like that it’s an SEC school and I know that I would be competing against the best players every week.”

Autry was a first-team All-Conference player his freshman year at Coffeyville C.C. He has spoken with offensive line coach Shawn Elliott but he hasn’t set up a visit to Columbia at this point.

“I don’t know a lot about Coach Elliott yet,” Autry said. “I have only talked to him once but I liked that he is really excited about me coming in on a visit. He made it feel like he wants me in the program.”

Autry isn’t in any rush to commit but he knows a place where he’s wanted.

“I’m still open,” Autry said about recruiting. “I haven’t looked at the depth chart at South Carolina but Coach just told me when they recruit a JUCO player, they want him to be able to come in and play right away.”

Autry would have three years to play two, assuming he stays healthy for his sophomore season at Coffeyville, at the Division I level.
