Ohio QB Chase Wolf weighs in on South Carolina offer
March 31, 2017
Before exiting the South Carolina campus on Thursday, 3-star quarterback Chase Wolf was offered by the Gamecocks.
South Carolina coaches Will Muschamp and Kurt Roper certainly made a good first-impression.
“I really liked the coaches and the campus is beautiful,” Wolf said. “The academics are second to none. That’s all good.
“And the football is one the rise as well, so it’s all good signs.”
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback from St. Xavier High School (Cincinnati, Ohio) added South Carolina to an offer sheet that already included Boston College, Iowa State, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Wisconsin.
“First, we sat in on the quarterback meetings, watched practice, toured the facilities and the school, walked around campus, then we had a meeting, it was my parents and I and coach Roper, we met with coach Muschamp,” Wolf said. “We were talking and he just let me know that I had an offer, so it was really exciting.”
Muschamp and Roper were certain to make sure that Wolf (6-2, 195) understood what he would receive in return, if he decided to call South Carolina home.
“That they’re going to develop me and they’re going to be honest with me every step of the way,” Wolf said. “They think I can play at that level. so that’s good. Coach Roper kept telling me how they’re going to develop me here and prepare me for the next level.”
The Gamecocks offensive coordinator has been in regular communication for about a month.
Wolf, who’s ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 35 pro-style quarterback in the country, will visit N.C. State on Friday, North Carolina on Saturday and Duke on Sunday. A trip to Wisconsin is on tap for the middle of next month.
Earlier this year, he visited Cincinnati, Indiana, Boston College, Pittsburgh and Miami of Ohio.
Wolf hasn’t nailed down a specific date for a decision, though he hopes to have it out of the way before summer.
“Academics, people, location — academics is the main thing for me, and good football,” Wolf said, when asked about factors that will go into his decision.
As a junior, Wolf completed 150 of 250 passes for 1,291 yards with 15 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He also rushed 74 times for 133 yards with 3 touchdowns.
