OL Cory Helms commits to the Gamecock

Jan. 25, 2015

South Carolina had four uncommitted official visitors on campus this weekend but one is now a Gamecock. Offensive lineman Cory Helms ((6-4 305) Alpharetta, Ga./Milton), who is transferring from Wake Forest, wrapped up his visit on Sunday and announced his commitment to South Carolina Sunday afternoon on his personal Twitter account.

Helms will have to sit out next season due to NCAA transfer rules after playing each of the last two seasons at Wake Forest. He was a 247Sports True Freshman All-American in 2013 at center and played left guard for the Demon Deacons last year as a sophomore.Helms, who was hosted by offensive lineman Brock Stadnik on his official visit, is being recruited by the Gamecocks as a center.

Helms took official visits last week to both Texas A&M and Mississippi State. The Aggies wanted him to enroll this January in classes, which started this week, but he declined and decided to visit South Carolina. Helms had an official visit planned to Penn State this weekend but will not take that visit.
