OL DJ Chester visited Gamecocks Saturday and has them squarely in the mix
SPORTSTALK / October 26, 2022OL DJ Chester (6-5 305) of McDonough, GA was in Columbia Saturday to watch USC battle Texas A&M. Chester had had the Gamecocks among his top 15 schools since late May. He camped there in the summer of 2021 and made an unofficial visit last spring. This visit gave him the chance to watch the Gamecocks person, and the opportunity to sit down with head coach Shane Beamer.
“It went very well. I really liked the environment there,” Chester said. “Right before they came out, the towels and everybody was going crazy. There was a lady next to the recruiting section, and when they would say Game-Cocks, the lady would be screaming, Coooocks. I had a great time.”
Chester said he also got the chance to talk with offensive analyst Lonnie Teasley who is coaching the offensive linemen while Greg Adkins recovers from an illness. He said they like him as either a guard or a center.
“He said we’d love to have you here. This will be a great place for you. The same old stuff,” Chester said. “South Carolina, I know would be a great place for me. They are still in with some of my top schools.”
Chester also has an offer from Clemson and continues to hear from line coach Thomas Austin. He has not yet been to a game at Clemson this season. He is a teammate of Clemson offensive line commitment Zecharia Owens.
Chester will take an official visit to Michigan this weekend. He has already taken officials to Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss. He said his fifth official visit will be to either USC, Clemson or Florida State. He has also been to games this season at LSU, Auburn and Florida State.
There is no leader right now for Chester, and he said the “family aspect” of a program will weigh heavily in his ultimate decision.
