OL Issiah Walker finally backs out of USC commitment

July 03, 2019

Multiple visits to Miami and visits to Florida, Florida State and UCF were not enough to sway OL Issiah Walker of Miami from the commitment to USC he made May 8th of 2018. But a couple of days in Frisco, TX at The Opening Finals, talking with other players and coaches, apparently did make an impact. Tuesday night Walker announced a decommitment from the Gamecocks on Twitter.

“I’ve met so many wonderful coaches, players and future teammates along this journey here at The Opening,” Walker wrote. “Being out here in Texas has made me realize I haven’t found my true home yet. With that being said, I am officially decommitting from the University of South Carolina. I am opening up my recruiting.”

Walker was one of the most highly regarded members of the USC 2020 class and one of five offensive linemen who had committed. He took his official visit to USC the first weekend in June, and he returned for a camp the last weekend before the dead period. After that visit, Walker said his commitment was still firm and the Gamecock coaches were understanding about his visits.

“I’m just enjoying the process and taking visits,” Walker said. “I told (Will( Muschamp I was going to take visits but I was still committed. It’s not like I’m going to decommit, it’s not like that.. I’m just seeing more.”

Now, Walker plans to see a lot more as he tries to find his “true home.” His decommitment leaves the Gamecocks with 14 high school/junior college commitments in the class, and 16 total including a pair of transfers from other schools.

I think we all saw this coming, no big surprise here at all. Wish him good luck. When they visit like he did you know he has a good chance of backing off.

Yeah.  I try not to get too excited with these early commits.  Nothing is a done deal until they sign.  I am sure Wolfie has some other good guys on his radar and we are not out of it by any means.

All true, yet with the transfer portal being what it is these days, it's not even a done deal then.

When he started all the visit to me that is a soft commit never was solid. Should have keep him as soft commit. Didn't they make changes for transfers?  I know I posted information on that here.
